Canadian Rockies, Lake Louise, Icefields Parkway, Jasper N.P., Maligne Lake

The second of two galleries on the Northern Rockies. Nearly every Canadian photo in both Northern Rockies galleries came from a stretch of scenery about 120 miles long from Banff to Jasper along the spine of the Rockies and accessed by the Icefields Parkway. The weather magic continued on the northern end of our trip with great conditions at key stops including Peyto Lake, the hike at Waterfowl Lakes, both stops at Lake Louise, and Maligne Lake. I recommend viewing in slideshow mode to see the best detail and see the captions as you go. Thanks for visiting.

  • Stunning Peyto Lake, near the Icefields Parkway. With no pre-glimpses you walk up a mundane trail to a ridge and there it is. I knew beforehand that Peyto is Easter egg blue, but my jaw still dropped when I saw it.

  • Jan stayed in the car while I explored solitude-soaked Upper Waterfowl Lake. I was alone and felt like it. It was odd to have the entire scene to myself including the 30 minute hike along the wide and briskly-moving Mistaya River.
